Ethiopian Renaissance Journal of Social Sciences and the Humanities Welcomes New Associate Editors

The editorial board of the Ethiopian Renaissance Journal of Social Sciences and the Humanities (ERJSSH) is pleased to announce the appointment of three distinguished scholars as Associate Editors. Their expertise and academic contributions will significantly enhance the journal’s mission to promote rigorous and interdisciplinary scholarship in the social sciences and humanities.

Dr. Meseret Kassie, earned her PhD from Boku, Vienna in Natural Resource and Life Science, is now an associate professor at the department of Geography and Environmental studies. She joins the board as an accomplished environmental researcher whose work spans sustainable urban development, ecosystem services, environmental health, and gender dimensions in agroforestry. She has participated in numerous nationally and internationally funded research projects, including a European Union-funded initiative on social inclusion and sustainable energy in Ethiopia’s informal settlements. She was a visiting fellow of UMAPS at the University of Michigan. Dr. Meseret will oversee manuscript submissions in the areas of land use and land cover change, ecosystem service valuation, environmental sustainability, and related interdisciplinary themes.

Dr. Yared Debebe, Assistant Professor of Peace and Security Studies at the University of Gondar, also joins the editorial team. He holds a PhD in Peace and Security Studies from Addis Ababa University and has held fellowships with the Southern Voices Network for Peacebuilding, DAAD, and the Civil Society Scholars Award. He has served as a visiting researcher at the Arnold-Bergstraesser-Institute (University of Freiburg) and as an Atlas Horn of Africa Fellow at IMAF, France. Dr. Yared’s research focuses on nationalism, identity, ethnic conflict, and peacebuilding in the Horn of Africa. He will be responsible for manuscripts related to peace and security studies, conflict resolution, ethnicity, nationalism, geopolitics, border studies, and related fields.

The third appointee is Dr. Sisay Sahile, a sociologist and cultural heritage expert whose academic and professional work reflects a deep commitment to the study and preservation of Ethiopia’s historical and sociocultural legacy. Dr. Sisay was awarded his PhD in 2021 from Hamburg University in Germany, where he specialised in Ethiopian Studies. He is currently employed as an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Gondar. Dr. Sisay has gained valuable experience working with several foreign research organisations, including the French Centre of Ethiopian Studies in Addis Ababa and the Beta Mesaheft project at Hamburg University. In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious Parcours des collections fellowship in Paris, France. He has an extensive publication history, including books, book chapters and journal articles, and has conducted numerous research projects. His research encompasses a range of disciplines including sociology, history, manuscript studies, philology and Ethiopian languages and support the journal’s engagement with manuscripts in these areas of study.
