Editorial Policy and guideline Duties of Editors

(1). Publication decisions

The editor-in-chief and the managing editor in consultation with associate editors are responsible for deciding the articles to be published from those submitted to the journal. The editor will be guided by the editorial policies of the journal and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editor confers with the members of the Editorial Committee or reviewers in making this decision.

(2). Fair play

Editors evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to the nature of the authors or the host institution including ethnicity, gender, religious belief, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

(3). Confidentiality

Any manuscripts received for review are treated as confidential documents. They are not

going to be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editorial policy.

(4). Standards of Objectivity

The standard practice of the ERJSSH dictates that reviews be conducted objectively and personal criticism of the author is inappropriate and unacceptable.

(5). Acknowledgment of Sources

Both internal and external reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.

(6). Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, universities, or institutions connected to the papers.

(7). Reviewer misconduct

The editors of ERJSSH will take reviewer misconduct seriously and pursue any allegation of breach of confidentiality, non-declaration of conflicts of interest (financial or non-financial), inappropriate use of confidential material, or delay of peer review for competitive advantage. Allegations of serious reviewer misconduct, such as plagiarism, will be taken to the institutional level.

(8). Plagiarism

Authors should adhere to publication requirements and submitted work is original, is not plagiarized, and has not been published elsewhere - fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable. If an author has used the work and/or words of others, that this original is been appropriately cited or quoted and accurately reflects individuals' contributions to the work and its reporting.

(9). Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication

An author should not in general send manuscripts to ERJSSH describing the same re- search in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

(10). Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, the author must promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with our editors to retract or correct the paper.

(11). Copyright

Effective with initial submissions, authors must agree that if their manuscript is accept- ed, they will grant ERJSSH an exclusive, irrevocable license to publish their work while the copyright remains with the authors. Authors of manuscripts, submitted at any time, need not contact the ERJSSH to request permission to reuse their own material. Authors who granted the journal exclusive license to publish and authors who transferred copyright to ERJSSH are allowed to do the following:

  •  use all or part of the work in compilations or other publications of the Authors' own works (includes theses/dissertations), to use figures, photos, and tables created by them and contained in the work, to present the work orally in its entirety, and to make copies of all or part of the work for the Authors' use for lectures, classroom instruction or similar uses. If the author is employed by an academic institution, that institution also may reproduce the article for teaching purposes.

  • post the accepted manuscript version of the work, the "Paper in Press," on the author's personal web page, their personal or institutional repository, or their funding body's archive provided that a link to the article in the Ethiopian Renaissance Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities is included.

  • post a manuscript version of the work on not-for-profit preprint servers provid- ed that the Authors retain distribution rights to the work, that ERJSSH formatted final files are not posted, and that a link to the article in the Ethiopian Renaissance Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities is included.

  • re-use of ERJSSH content must include the following: This research was originally published in the Ethiopian Renaissance Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, Author(s). Title. ERJSSH. Year; Vol:pp-pp. © Ethiopian Renaissance Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Gondar.

(12). Ethics policy

As a condition of publication, all authors must grant the Ethiopian Renaissance of Social Sciences and Humanities license to publish their work as described above (new policy, effective July 1, 2018). Here, the ERJSSH is committed to peer-review integrity and upholding the highest standards of review. Once your paper has been assessed for suitability by one of the editors, it will then be double blind peer reviewed by independent, anonymous expert referees.

The submission of a manuscript having multiple authors constitutes a representation that all listed authors concur with the submission and approved the final version. Allegations of violations of the standard norms for publishing original research - such as publication without approval of all authors, plagiarism, republication of data used previously without acknowledgment- will be investigated.

By submitting a manuscript to the journal, the authors agree to abide by ERJSSH policy and procedures for handling questionable manuscripts. Authors also agree to cooperate with any inquiry or investigation initiated by the editorial committee or external reviewers into an allegation of research misconduct involving a manuscript. If any investigative or reviewing body makes any finding with respect to a manuscript, each author is required to provide immediately the details of the findings and support. When an allegation of a suspected violation is received for a published article, ERJSSH shall first contact the corresponding author and request an explanation or response. Authors are expected to maintain the original data from their manuscripts for a minimum of 6 years after the final publication date of their article, as they may be required to provide the original data. If authors are unable to provide all the original data upon request, the editor may ask the authors to withdraw or correct the article or the publisher may retract the article. The editor will decide upon a course of action based on the material provided by the authors. When the editor and the authors cannot agree on a resolution or appropriate correction of the literature, the ERJSSH editorial committee will decide the appropriate resolution.

Above all, any research which involves human subjects should collect ethical clearance from ethics Review Boards and informed consent and/or assent from participants.

(13). Acknowledgments

At the end of the manuscript, the author should acknowledge briefly: (a) contributions that need acknowledging but do not justify authorship; (b) acknowledgments of technical help received by the author; (c) acknowledgments of financial and material support received by the author, specifying the nature of support; and (d) study subjects and others who contributed in the design, data collection, and analysis of the study.

(14). Disclaimer

Neither the editors nor the Editorial Committee of the ERJSSH are responsible for authors' expressed opinions, views, and the contents of the published manuscripts in the journal. The originality, proofreading of manuscripts and errors are the sole responsibility of the individual authors.

All manuscripts submitted for review and publication in the journal go under double-blind reviews for authenticity, ethical issues, and useful contributions. Decisions of the reviewers are the only tool for publication in the journal and will be final.

(15). Distribution

This journal is distributed nationally and internationally in print. As it is openly accessed on the website, journal has been widely sought in Africa, North America, Middle East and Europe.
