An Analysis of Approach and Organization of the Contents of the Grammar Lesson: In the Case of Amharic Grade 11 Textbook
Keywords:
Grammar, content, approach, and organizationAbstract
The main purpose of this study is to examine the approach and organization of grammar content in the eleventh grade Amharic language textbook, published in 2004 Ec. To achieve this objective, the study followed a descriptive research design, as textbooks and contents were selected via purposive sampling technique. Based on the basic questions posed by the study and the theories put forward by the scholars in the field, data were collected through document analysis. The collected data were analyzed using a qualitative method. The Find- ings show that the grammar content in the textbook has been presented both in deductive and inductive approaches. Inductive approach has shown that there are exercises that are presented only in the form of questions questions that require clarification. The grammar content that is presented through the product oriented and process oriented approach is included in the textbook. This shows that the role of the students in examining the grammatical content in context is limited. On the other hand, the target text book evaluated in terms of sequence and continuity. In terms of sequence, a few grammar lessons are arranged sequentially. In contrast, the grammar content in the textbook has been somewhat standardized. In general, the textbook indicates that there are some strengths and weaknesses in terms of approach and organization.
